Preferred Material Matrix
When selecting materials, we always strive to choose those with the least environmental impact. Unfortunately, this is not always possible, as some materials require large minimum order quantities that we cannot fulfill and would ultimately result in waste. Thus, our choices are carefully balanced across various parameters.
Our creative team works closely with our sourcing and technical teams to combine the best materials and accessories with the desired design and quality features. Decisions are made with durability in mind, allowing each design to have a long-lasting life. We believe that one of the key elements to making a positive impact is producing high-quality clothing that lasts. This commitment has always been—and will continue to be—a central part of STELLA NOVA's DNA.
To ensure durability and quality, we thoroughly test each design through washing and wear tests and technical quality measurements. Additionally, we adhere to well-documented materials and processes rather than following new trends that may later prove less beneficial.

ISKO
ISKO™ is a globally leading denim producer with facilities in Turkey and the first denim manufacturer in the world to achieve both Nordic Swan and EU Ecolabel certifications. Their materials are characterized by advanced technology and a deep commitment to quality throughout the integrated production process, from yarn to finished product. Denim
Our denim production takes place exclusively in Izmir, Turkey, where 100% of the electricity is generated by solar power. The producer is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard), and all production is carried out internally on their production lines.
Cotton
In 2022, we took an important step by deciding not to produce cotton-based styles in China unless the entire supply chain is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This decision is based on a UN report from August 2022, documenting forced labor and modern slavery in Xinjiang province, which supplies 80-90% of China’s domestic cotton, significantly affecting the Uyghur minority. You can read more about the challenges of Xinjiang cotton here and here.
Our cotton is primarily sourced from India, Turkey, and Brazil, and we require suppliers to provide documentation verifying the cotton’s origin. STELLA NOVA cotton styles marked “made in China” will consistently be made from GOTS-certified cotton. As STELLA NOVA is not yet GOTS-certified, we are currently not permitted to use the GOTS label on our products.
Leather
Our leather products are meticulously crafted in India, where our supplier not only owns the production facilities but also has complete control over every process. This ensures both high quality and responsible production. Our leather comes from a supplier certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), an organization renowned for its Gold Member status and commitment to sustainability in the leather industry.
LWG assesses the environmental impact of leather production, focusing on end-to-end improvements. The organization emphasizes traceability and transparency, ensuring that you, as a customer, can trust the source of the leather. They share knowledge and data to encourage efficient resource use, reduce waste, and limit pollution. Their standards ensure the use of safe chemicals, environmental protection, animal welfare, and fair working conditions.
Our commitment to LWG standards reflects our goal to create a positive impact on both the environment and society. By choosing our leather products, you are part of this positive cycle that cares for people and the planet.
